Sporting KC II will conclude their two match homestand with a Friday night game against Houston Dynamo 2. SKC II kept their first clean sheet of the season in their last match, a 1-0 home win over MNUFC 2. Forward Missael Rodriguez scored a beauty of a free kick to lift Sporting past Minnesota, giving him five goals on the season. Goalkeeper Jack Kortkamp saved five shots including a penalty kick denial two minutes before Rodriguez found the back of the net.
Rodriguez's five goals are tied for the team lead along with Tega Ikoba and Kashan Hines. Ikoba has been out since June 8 after he struck twice against MNUFC 2 on the road. He will be available for selection on Friday night. Hines, a 17-year-old Sporting KC Academy player, has four goals in his last six starts. He has made 11 starts and is nearing the 1000 minute mark for the season.
Kortkamp has started eight games this season and has made 30 saves. The Homegrown goalkeeper has earned four results in his starts. Helping Kortkamp on the backline in the victory were centerbacks Pierre Lurot and Mitch Ferguson. Lurot has played every minute of every SKC II game this season, sharing the captain's armband with Blaine Mabie who has started 12 of 15 appearances.Â
Shane Donovan played in the midfield against Minnesota, a slight change of position for him as the versatile attacker predominantly plays on the wing. Donovan leads the team in total goal contributions, scoring four goals while adding three assists. Gael Quintero has been a steady hand in the middle of the pitch in 2026, starting 14 of 17 appearances and playing over 1000 minutes for a second straight season.
Houston is led by head coach Jeremy Hurdle who was promoted from the interim position on July 14. Houston and Hurdle occupy the second spot in the Western Conference, two points behind Austin FC II. They have earned four straight results, all at home and have lost three straight road matches. Their leading scorer is forward Austin Brummett with eight goals, two of which came against SKC II on April 26.Â
Following Friday's matchup with Dynamo Dos, SKC II will travel to central Texas to take on Austin FC II at Parmer Field on Sunday, August 9. The game will kick at 7:30 p.m. CT and can be streamed for free at MLSNEXTPro.com and in the OneFootball app.
