Recap: SKC II ends season on high note, defeats Dynamo Dos on Decision Day

Sporting Kansas City II (6-18-4, 23 points) earned their second straight win over Houston Dynamo 2 (14-8-6, 52 points) on Sunday afternoon, ending the 2026 season on a positive note with a Decision Day road victory.

Tega Ikoba concludes the season as the team's top scorer netting the match winner and his ninth of the season. Zamir Loyo Reynaga, a 15-year-old midfielder, found the back of the net for the second time this season. Forward Missael Rodriguez assisted and scored in the contest, giving him a team-best 11 goal contributions. 

Goalkeeper Brady Krysiewicz earned his first professional win in his second career start. Defender Pierre Lurot played every single minute this season, one of just two players in MLS NEXT Pro to achieve that feat.

Houston started the game on the front foot, firing the first two shots of the game. Gilberto Rivera took the first crack of the game, rattling the crossbar from close range in the third minute. SKC's 16-year-old goalkeeper Krysiewicz was then forced to make his first save of the game three minutes later, denying a headed attempt from Chibuike Ukaegbu.

Despite starting the game on the back foot, Sporting jumped out in front thanks to a strike from Loyo Reynaga in the 10th minute. The 15-year-old midfielder received a pass from Rodriguez after playing the winger out wide. Loyo Reynaga then slotted the ball past the keeper into the far post from 18 yards out.

Just over 10 minutes later, Ikoba fought through the defense to get into the box before sliding a pass to Rodriguez. The winger ripped a shot right at a well-positioned Roman Kerimov who made his first save of the game.

On the other end of the pitch, Mitch Ferguson put his body on the line to block a shot away. Right before the half Houston leveled on Austin Brummett's 12th goal of the campaign. Head coach Lee Tschantret rolled with the same eleven players out of the break.

Unlike the first half, SKC II took it to Houston, with Loyo Reynaga nearly finding his second of the game. Kerimov was able to make the save but was not so lucky two minutes later. A brilliant run from Shane Donovan was picked out by Blaine Mabie who slipped the winger in behind the defense. The SKC Academy product made the unselfish pass to an oncoming Rodriguez who buried the ball in the empty net.

Second half substitute Gabriel William was given the first of his two yellow cards in the 68th minute for a foul on Rodriguez at the top of the box. Houston was able to get back even but not before Alex Cunningham threw his body in front of a shot and then stuck with the play, clearing it down the field. Brummet would even the score for a second time in the 74th, chopping a shot into the far post. 

Tschantret made his first two subs in the 77th, swapping Daniel Russo and Ty Haas for Sam Worcester and Donovan. He made two more changes in the 81st, bringing on Johann Ortiz and Trevor Burns for Loyo Reynaga and Gael Quintero. Rodriguez whipped another shot on target that Kerimov was able to stop. Ikoba nearly found the winner six minutes before he actually did. After winning the ball in the box he hammered a shot barely over the top of the bar. 

William was given a second yellow card after hammering Ikoba down near midfield and Dynamo Dos would play the remainder of the contest down a man. Sporting took advantage with Ikoba scoring the winner in the 87th. After Kerimov spilled a cross into the middle of the box Ikoba wasted no time tapping the ball into the empty net. Tschantret brought on Zane Wantland in his final move of the 2026 season and SKC II saw out the remainder of the game to take home three points.
