Recap: Kashan Hines scores twice in SKC II's 3-2 win over Houston Dynamo 2

Sporting Kansas City II (5-12-3, 19 points) picked up their second straight win on Friday night after a 3-2 triumph over Houston Dynamo 2 (12-4-3, 42 points) at Victory Field. After Houston jumped out to an early lead, a second yellow card to Daniel Barrett in the 24th minute forced Houston to play down a man.

Kashan Hines bagged his first professional brace and Missael Rodriguez scored in a second straight game to give Sporting KC II a two goal lead before the 80 minute mark. Houston cut into the lead but it was too little too late as SKC II earned the victory over Dynamo Dos.

Barrett picked up his first yellow card six minutes into the contest, pulling down Rodriguez as he broke into the attacking third. The first attack of the game came from the hosts after Hines received a through ball, fought through contact and won a corner after pinging a shot off Noah Betancourt. Houston's first advance led to a shot from inside the 18 from Samir Mohammad that Kortkamp deflected back into the box where Pierre Lurot cleared the danger. 

The ensuing corner hopped in the box and was mishit by Betancourt leading to an SKC II goal kick. The set piece went awry for Kansas City and a turnover inside their own box led to the opening goal from Arthur Sousa in the 19th minute.

Kortkamp bounced back and made a pair of saves on headed attempts from Betancourt and Sousa. The game script flipped in the 24th when Barrett was given a second yellow card and his marching orders after another hard foul on Rodriguez.

Sporting immediately tried to take advantage of the extra man, sending in two shots on target. The first, an overhead flick from Daniel Russo that was boxed away by Logan Erb, and the second a worm burner from Zamir Loyo Reynaga that was collected by the keeper. Gael Quintero came agonizingly close to leveling the match in the 28th after Rodriguez picked out his run in the box. The midfielder then glanced a header barely over the bar. 

SKC II found the equalizer in the 43rd thanks to another resilient run from Hines. The SKC Academy forward got to a centering pass from Blaine Mabie, touched the ball around one defender, fought through the contact of another, rounded the goalkeeper and buried a shot in the empty net to even the score at one.

Out of the halftime break, head coach Lee Tschantret made his first change of the night, bringing on Sam Worcester for Russo who was on a yellow card. Worcester nearly made an instant impact, dashing through the Dynamo Dos defense before hitting a shot off the outstretched leg of Erb in the 47th minute. In the 50th, Hines and Worcester forced two more heroic saves from Erb, ripping a near post shot at him and heading a corner on target before the offside flag went up.

A 10-man Houston's first attack in the second half saw D'Alessandro Herrera's rolled effort saved comfortably by Kortkamp in the 53rd. Ty Haas entered the game in the 60th, replacing Loyo Reynaga. Hines then netted his second goal of the game in the 71st thanks to SKC II's consistent high press. The 17-year-old dispossessed Herrera in his own box, settled the ball and fired home with his left foot to give SKC II the lead.

Six minutes later, Rodriguez doubled the lead after another forced turnover from Hines in Houston's defensive third. After Hines won the ball off Betancourt, Rodriguez wasted no time picking it up and tucking a shot past Erb and into the back of the net to increase the advantage.

Houston continued to fight however, and a foul by Lurot, after minimal contact in the box, led to a penalty goal from Austin Brummett in the 79th. Erb made another double save three minutes later, spilling a skipped shot from Rodriguez, but recovering in time to block Haas's rebound. Tschantret made two more changes after that, swapping Hines and Quintero for Tega Ikoba and Trevor Burns. 

He went to his bench again in the third and final minute of stoppage time, subbing on Jack Francka for Alex Cunningham. Houston's last ditch effort at rescuing a point came from a long range free kick that was hammered well over the bar, bringing the match to a close with SKC II coming out on top.

Sporting KC II will take their two-game win streak to Central Texas to face on Austin FC II next Sunday, August 9 in a 7:30 p.m. CT matchup at Parmer Field.
