Sporting Kansas City will host the club’s annual Kick Childhood Cancer theme night this weekend when the team takes on Austin FC in Major League Soccer’s Match of the Week at 6 p.m. CT on Sunday at Children’s Mercy Park. The highly-anticipated gameday comes during Childhood Cancer Awareness Month and this year’s Kick Childhood Cancer initiative features several special festivities:
- Sporting KC and match title night partner Compass Minerals will give away custom teddy bears adorned with the team’s One KC jerseys to children on the Mazuma Plaza while supplies last. In addition, three SKC players – Daniel Salloi, Khiry Shelton and Mason Toye – will make a special appearance at Children’s Mercy on Tuesday, Sept. 9 for National Teddy Bear Day to visit with pediatric patients and donate teddy bears to the hospital as part of the team’s monthly play dates.
- Sporting KC launched The Victory Project in 2013 and, as part of the foundation’s mission to enhance the lives of children with cancer, honors a child battling cancer at each home match. The VIP experience begins by attending training the day before to meet the team and includes an overnight stay at Great Wolf Lodge before enjoying the game with fieldside access for pre/post-game festivities, a shopping spree at SportingStyle and seats in the luxurious Victory Suite. On Sunday, Sporting will collectively celebrate all past honorees as they are invited to return to Children’s Mercy Park for a special matchday that will include a pre-match tailgate on the Mazuma Plaza from 4:30-6 p.m., seats in the Price Chopper South Stand and a halftime recognition as well as Kick Childhood Cancer rally towels and SKC-branded Shadow Buddies.
- Representatives from the oncology and hematology teams at Children’s Mercy will also be in attendance to participate in the festivities. In addition, the national anthem will be performed by saxophonist JahVelle Rohn, who has a relative that was a previous Victory Project Honoree.
- SportingStyle will release a new Victory Project crewneck sweatshirt in youth and adult sizes with 100% of the proceeds supporting the foundation. SKC has also designed a Kick Childhood Cancer creative campaign that channels the spirit of superheroes in the lens of vintage comics.
Tickets for SKCvATX are available via SeatGeek, including the Coca-Cola Family & Friends 4-Pack featuring four Price Chopper South Stand seats, four 20-ounce Coca-Cola products and four hot dogs for only $100.
The Western Conference match-up will be available to watch with an MLS Season Pass or Apple TV+ subscription. Pub partners in the Sporting Pub Network will also show all of the action, including a watch party at No Other Pub in the Kansas City Power & Light district featuring $4 domestic drafts, $5 wells and 50% off nachos for fans in SKC gear starting at 4 p.m. on Sunday.
