Sporting Kansas City and the Unified Government of Wyandotte County and Kansas City, Kansas (UG) Parks and Recreation Department will host a ribbon cutting ceremony at 10 a.m. CT on Saturday to unveil newly renovated futsal courts at Welborn Park as part of Kids to Parks Day , a national initiative celebrated annually on the third Saturday of May.
The free, all ages event will celebrate the start of summer with World Cup-themed games and a variety of outdoor activities for the community, including inflatable sports games, soccer skills challenges and special activities designed for dogs. Refreshments and giveaways will be available while supplies last.
Sporting Kansas City recently contributed $250,000 to help fund a total investment of over $400,000 to renovate the following 19 futsal courts across 10 locations in Wyandotte County ahead of FIFA World Cup 26™ with improvements to the court surfaces – including painting, coating and striping – as part of the club’s longstanding commitment to support area youth and the local community.

- Clopper Park (two courts) at South 34th St. and Powell Ave.
- John Garland Park (two courts) at North 5th St. and Cleveland Ave.
- Highland Park (two courts) at 47th St. and Shawnee Dr.
- J.C. Harmon High School (one court) at 2400 Steele Rd.
- Shawnee Park (two courts) at South 7th St. and Shawnee Ave.
- St. Margaret’s Park (two courts) at 230 South 7th St.
- Welborn Park (two courts) at North 55th St. and Rowland Ave.
- Westheight Park (two courts) at 1774 North 20th St.
- Wyandotte High School (two courts) at Westview Dr. and Tauromee Ave.
Welborn Park, located on 20+ acres in District 8 of Wyandotte County, features a quarter-mile walking trail, a large playground, a shelter, a picnic area, a basketball court and a dog park in addition to the two lighted futsal courts which first opened in 2015 and which will now feature the logos of Sporting KC and KC2026.
