During this past weekendâs match against Austin FC, Childrenâs Mercy Park played host to an event like none other: the 2022 Sporting KC Media Game.
In total, 32 media members from around the region took the field at halftime â split into two teams, Sporting Blue (primary jerseys) and Sporting Indigo (secondary jerseys). On the night, Sporting Indigo took the bragging rights with a 2-0 victory.
After a sloppy opening to the match, Kansas City Star beat reporter Daniel Sperry took the game by the scruff of the neck and bundled home the opening goal for Sporting Indigo after Julio Ayala (Azteca TV Arkansas) could only parry Jared Kollerâs (KCTV5) cross.
With the game being played strictly around each goal with no midfield to speak of, it was anyoneâs guess who would nab the next goal. In the end, Sporting Indigo sealed the 2022 Media Game victory after KSHB 41âs Tod Palmer took advantage of some great build-up play from Sperry and Cody Tapp (610 Sports Radio), juking past his man inside the area before slotting the ball into the back of the net to send the Cauldron into raptures.
