Sporting Kansas City will conclude the 2026 season on Saturday at San Diego FC with all Western Conference matches kicking off simultaneously at 6 p.m. CT on Decision Day.

While Sporting Kansas City and San Diego FC are each eliminated from playoff contention, both teams enter Saturday's showdown coming off strong showings a week ago against postseason qualifiers.

San Diego is coming off a 1-0 road result at fourth-place St. Louis that snapped the team's 10-game winless run (0-5-5) and ended a streak of nine straight games in which the club had conceded multiple goals. Sporting Kansas City rallied for a 1-1 draw with second-place FC Dallas last weekend courtesy of Jansen Miller's first goal as a professional and Stefan Cleveland's 97th-minute penalty save on Petar Musa.

After finishing first in the Western Conference and reaching the Conference Final in their expansion season a year ago, San Diego FC sits in 13th place in the standings despite a second straight sensational season from Designated Player Anders Dreyer. The reigning MLS Newcomer of the Year -- who recorded 19 goals and 19 assists as a Best XI selection in 2025 -- once again leads the Western Conference in goal contributions with 15 goals and 13 assists this year.

The 28-year-old Dreyer scored the decisive goal when Sporting KC and San Diego last met in March as San Diego prevailed 1-0 at Sporting Park. San Diego is unbeaten in the three previous meetings in the series (2-0-1) as SKC has been shutout in each.

Led by head coach Mikey Varas, San Diego FC leads the league in possession and has covered the most distance of any MLS team this season. The SDFC squad features four players that were named to World Cup rosters this summer -- Elias Achouri (Tunisia), Cedric Bakambu (DR Congo), C.J. Dos Santos (Cape Verde) and Anibal Godoy (Panama) -- in addition to Designated Player Marcus Ingvartsen who has contributed 12 goals and six assists this year.

Currently enduring the club's third seven-game winless run of the season, Sporting Kansas City will need a victory -- along with a CF Montreal loss -- on Saturday to avoid a last-place finish in the Supporters' Shield standings. SKC has recorded the fewest wins (six) and worst goal differential (-42) in club history this year while setting an MLS single-season record with 81 goals conceded.

SDvSKC will be available to watch in English (Josh Eastern and Lloyd Sam) and Spanish (Francisco X. Rivera) on Apple TV in addition to local radio coverage on Sports Radio 810 WHB (Blake Aerni and Jon Kempin) and La Grande 1340 AM (Josue Orantes and Diego Gutierrez) with audio streams in the SKC mobile app. All of the action will also be shown in pub partners across the Sporting Pub Network.
