Sporting Kansas City hits the road this weekend to take on FC Dallas at Toyota Stadium down in Texas on Saturday night. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. CT and will be available to stream on Apple TV, while the game will also be broadcast locally on the radio via Sports Radio 810 WHB and La Grande 1340 AM.
1. LOOKING FOR PROGRESS
Sporting Kansas City will be looking to bounce back this weekend when the team takes on FC Dallas at Toyota Stadium having suffered a 3-0 setback against table-toppers the Vancouver Whitecaps at Sporting Park last Saturday.
Sporting made life difficult for the high-flying Whitecaps for most of the first half before Thomas Muller buried a penalty kick just before the break to send Vancouver on the way to three points. Sporting saw club-record signing Andre Luiz debut in the second half, with the club hoping his role increases in the coming weeks and months.
Sporting had a busy summer transfer window, signing seven players to the roster - the most ever signed by the club in a single summer. Sporting added a pair of young forwards to the roster on Deadline Day, with Ruben Ramos Jr. (LA Galaxy) and Seymour Reid (NYCFC) joining on loan through the 2027 MLS Sprint Season.
With results challenging to come by since the World Cup break, Sporting will look to show improvement with the support of the team’s summer additions during the final 12 matches of the 2026 season.
2. DEALING WITH DALLAS
Sporting Kansas City hits the road this weekend to face off against longtime Western Conference foes FC Dallas at Toyota Stadium on Saturday night. Sporting has lost their last three against Dallas and will be looking to snap that run this weekend.
Sporting last visited Dallas on March 29, 2025, falling to a 2-1 defeat in what turned out to be Peter Vermes’ last match as Manager of the club. Daniel Salloi gave Sporting an early lead on the night but a quickfire double before halftime from Lucho Acosta and Leo Chu sealed the points for the Texans.
Sporting then fell 4-2 against Dallas at Sporting Park on June 14, 2025. After once again taking the lead, this time through Shapi Suleymanov, Dallas roared into a 4-1 lead before Santi Munoz slotted home a late consolation goal for the hosts.
Sporting trails the all-time regular-season series against Dallas 29-33-14 and have won just two of the last eight meetings between the two sides, going 2-5-1 since the start of 2022.
3. ANDRE LUIZ DEBUTS FOR SKC
Sporting Kansas City’s record signing, Andre Luiz, made his debut for the club as a second-half substitute in last Saturday’s match against the Vancouver Whitecaps at Sporting Park.
Andre, still working on his match fitness, came off the bench in the 66th minute and showed flashes of his quality immediately, beating players on the dribble and showing a willingness to drive toward goal.
Andre arrived in Kansas City this summer following a breakout season in Europe where he took Portugal by storm with Rio Ave FC, tallying seven goals and six assists in the first half of the season, before closing out the 2025-2026 campaign at Greek giants Olympiacos.
4. SUMMER TRANSFER WINDOW CLOSES
The Major League Soccer secondary transfer window closed on Wednesday night, with Sporting Kansas City one of the busiest teams throughout the summer window. Sporting added seven players to the team’s roster and broke the club’s transfer record to bring in winger Andre Luiz from Olympiacos FC.
Sporting moved quickly to address the team’s defensive line by signing three players before league play resumed following the World Cup, adding Or Blorian, Emir Karic and Moises Mosquera all by early July.
Sporting continued to add to the roster in the month of August, bringing in Andre from Olympiacos along with the highly-touted Owen Wolff in a cash trade from Austin FC before adding Ruben Ramos Jr. and Seymour Reid on loan from fellow MLS clubs on Deadline Day.

The club moved on from Designated Player duo Manu Garcia and Dejan Joveljic, providing the team with a huge amount of flexibility heading into 2027 and beyond.
5. SPORTING TO RETURN TO U.S. OPEN CUP IN 2027
U.S. Soccer confirmed the format for the 112th edition of the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup, which will feature all 27 U.S.-based Major League Soccer (Division I) clubs. U.S. Soccer’s historic national club championship, which brings together professional and amateur soccer in communities across the country, begins with the First Round in April and concludes with the Final, scheduled for Dec. 15. The 96-team field will compete for a $1 million purse and a spot in the Concacaf Champions Cup.
Sporting KC and all U.S.-based MLS clubs will enter the competition in the Round of 64 and will join five seeded clubs from the USL Championship (Division II). An additional 32 teams from the USL Championship, USL League One (Division III) and MLS NEXT Pro (Division III) will enter in the First Round. The U.S. Open Cup adheres to “one club, one entry,” meaning professional clubs will enter their highest-level professional team.
Sporting has won the U.S. Open Cup, named in honor of former Kansas City Wizards owner Lamar Hunt, on four occasions (2004, 2012, 2015, 2017), tied for the most among MLS clubs. Sporting is in the midst of an active 16-match home unbeaten streak in U.S. Open Cup play since the start of 2015.
