Sporting Kansas City heads to Texas this weekend for a showdown with the Houston Dynamo at Shell Energy Stadium on Saturday night. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. CT and will be available to stream on Apple TV, while the game will also be broadcast locally on the radio via Sports Radio 810 WHB and La Grande 1340 AM.
1. GOALS KEEP FLOWING
Sporting Kansas City will be looking to bounce back this weekend after suffering a tough 4-3 defeat to the Philadelphia Union at Sporting Park last Saturday, surrendering a 3-0 lead in the second half.
Sporting raced into a three-goal lead within the opening 16 minutes after a brace from Andre Luiz and a first MLS goal from Wyatt Meyer, but ultimately were unable to stave off Philadelphia’s second-half comeback as the Union got four goals in a nine-minute span to flip the game on its head.
A major positive from last weekend’s match was that the goals have kept flowing for Sporting this month, as the team has now scored three goals in three consecutive games for the first time in over four years, having last achieved that feat from Aug. 6-21, 2022.
Sporting will be hoping the improvements in front of goal will lead to more positive results during the remaining 10 matches of the season.
2. HEADING SOUTH TO HOUSTON
Sporting Kansas City heads south this weekend to face off against the Houston Dynamo at Shell Energy Stadium on Saturday night. Houston is still flying high in a tie for second place in the Western Conference, but have stumbled recently with just one win in their last six matches - going 1-2-3 in that time.
Sporting hosted Houston at Sporting Park earlier this season, falling to a 2-0 defeat on Aug. 1, 2026. After an evenly-contested first half, Lasse Berg Johnsen received his second yellow card and was dismissed on the stroke of halftime, heavily tilting the match in the Dynamo’s favor. With the numerical advantage, Houston scored twice in the second half through Guilherme and Agustin Bouzat to claim all three points.
Sporting was victorious on their last visit to Shell Energy Stadium, earning a 3-1 victory well over a year ago on May 31, 2025. After falling behind early, Dejan Joveljic scored a brace to give Sporting the lead before Santi Munoz made the points safe late on.
The all-time regular-season series between the two clubs is tied at 15-15-17, while Sporting holds a 6-8-9 mark on the road.
3. ANDRE DAZZLES ONCE AGAIN
Sporting Kansas City record signing Andre Luiz continued to dazzle early in his MLS career by scoring another two goals in the club’s 4-3 defeat against the Philadelphia Union at Sporting Park on Saturday night, leading to a spot on the MLS Team of the Matchday for the second straight week.
Andre opened the scoring in the sixth minute, receiving a pass from Lasse Berg Johnsen on the halfway line and producing one of the best individual goals of the season by blazing beyond a pair of Philadelphia defenders before calmly slotting home into the bottom corner. The goal was nominated for MLS Goal of the Matchday.
Four minutes and 35 seconds later, Andre was at it again when he was found by Calvin Harris 25 yards from goal, and the Brazilian curled home a precise finish to give his side an early two-goal lead. Andre became the first player in club history to score twice in the first 10 minutes of a regular season match.
The 24-year-old Brazilian was acquired by Sporting in a club-record transfer from Greek giants Olympiacos FC in August, having broken out during the first half of the 2025-2026 season with Rio Ave FC in Portugal where he tallied seven goals and six assists in half a season.
4. MEYER SCORES FIRST IN SPORTING BLUE
Sporting Kansas City defender Wyatt Meyer scored his first goal for the club and the first goal of his MLS career this past weekend in the club’s 4-3 setback against the Philadelphia Union at Sporting Park.
In the 16th minute of the match, Meyer expertly headed Emir Karic’s corner kick beyond Andre Blake into the back of the Philadelphia net to make the score 3-0 before Sporting ultimately surrendered the lead in the second half. The goal was Sporting’s first off a set piece in 2026 and came against a team that had previously only conceded one goal from a corner all season.
Meyer spent his rookie season with Nashville SC in 2025 and scored his first professional for the club in the U.S. Open Cup, tallying the game-winner in the 3-2 Round of 16 victory over Orlando City on May 21, 2025.
Collegiately, Meyer recorded four goals and six assists in 66 appearances for the Cal Golden Bears and was named Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Year and earned All-Pac-12 First Team honors while serving as team captain in 2023.
5. RAMOS & WOLFF DEBUT FOR SKC
Sporting Kansas City newcomers Ruben Ramos Jr. and Owen Wolff each made their debuts for the club this past weekend, coming off the bench in the second half of the team’s 4-3 defeat to the Philadelphia Union at Sporting Park.
Ramos, 19, joined Sporting on deadline day in a loan from the LA Galaxy through the 2027 Sprint Season. Ramos made eight appearances for the Galaxy first team earlier this season and scored his first MLS goal against CF Montreal on Aug. 22, 2026, while he has tallied 16 goals and seven assists while representing LA’s MLS NEXT Pro affiliate, Ventura County FC.
Wolff, 21, was acquired by Sporting in a cash-for-player trade from Austin FC in August. Wolff, the son of Sporting Legend Josh Wolff, joined Sporting after recording 10 goals and 23 assists in 147 appearances for Austin FC as one of the most exciting young players in MLS. Wolff enjoyed a breakout season in 2025 with seven goals and 12 assists across all competitions and was voted as the fourth best young player in Major League Soccer in the league’s annual 22 Under 22 rankings.
