The only other such occasion also featured a road match against the Sounders at Lumen Field back on Sept. 1, 2018 before SKC finished the month playing at Sporting Park on Sept. 30, 2018.

2. TOPPLING THE TIMBERS

Sporting Kansas City returns home this weekend to host the Portland Timbers at Sporting Park on Saturday night. Sporting last played on Oct. 1 in a rescheduled match at Seattle, while the Timbers have been idle since falling 3-1 at San Jose on Sept. 26.

The two sides last met earlier this season at Providence Park, with Portland romping to a 6-0 victory. The hosts raced into a four-goal lead within the opening 26 minutes before adding another pair of goals in the second half to send Sporting back to Kansas City licking their wounds.

Sporting last hosted the Timbers well over a year ago on April 13, 2025. With interim head coach Kerry Zavagnin taking charge of just his second match, Sporting fell 4-2 to Portland at Sporting Park despite first-half goals from Shapi Suleymanov and Dejan Joveljic.

Sporting trails the all-time regular-season series with the Timbers 9-11-7 and holds a 5-2-5 mark at Sporting Park, but Sporting is winless in their last five in the series (0-4-1).

3. ANDRE CONTINUES SCORCHING FORM

Sporting Kansas City Designated Player and record-signing Andre Luiz continued his scorching hot form last week, finding the back of the net once again in the team’s 2-1 setback against the Seattle Sounders at Lumen Field on Thursday night.

The Brazilian winger received the ball inside the penalty area after Stephen Afrifa had charged down a Seattle clearance, took a touch and thundered the ball into the top corner to give his side the lead. Andre now has five goals in his past four games, all coming in the first half of matches, making him the team’s top scorer on the active roster.

Since September 10, Andre is the only player in MLS with five goals and the only player in MLS with six goal contributions (five goals, one assist). He is the fourth player in club history to score five goals in his first five regular season starts and the fourth player in club history to record six goal contributions in his first six regular season appearances.

Andre has the longest active scoring streak in MLS with goals in four straight games, while only two players in club history have scored in more consecutive regular season appearances: Preki (goals in five straight games in 1996) and Johnny Russell (goals in eight straight games in 2021).

4. AFRIFA BAGS ANOTHER ASSIST

Sporting Kansas City forward Stephen Afrifa continued to make the most of his recent opportunities, earning another assist in last week’s 2-1 loss to the Seattle Sounders at Lumen Field.

Afrifa’s pressed high to charge down an attempted pass out of the Seattle backline, redirecting the ball into the path of Andre Luiz who in turn rifled the ball into the top corner to give the visitors a halftime lead.

The assist was Afrifa’s third of the season and sixth of his Sporting career across all competitions, while he now has a goal contribution in four consecutive away matches dating back to Aug. 23 at Atlanta (two goals, two assists).

Afrifa’s six goal contributions (three goals, three assists) in 2026 are a new single-season career high, surpassing his five goal contributions (four goals, one assist) in 2024. Since joining the club in 2023 as the eighth overall pick in the MLS SuperDraft out of FIU, Afrifa has tallied nine goals and six assists in just over 2,000 minutes.

5. RAMOS SCORES HAT TRICK FOR U.S. U-20s

Sporting Kansas City forward Ruben Ramos Jr. scored a hat trick for the United States Under-20 Men’s National Team this past weekend to cap a nine-day international training camp in San Pedro Del Pinatar, Spain.

Led by head coach Gonzalo Segares, the U.S. U-20s continued to prepare for the 2027 FIFA U-20 World Cup in Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan with a pair of friendly matches against Brazil (2-0 loss) and Denmark (3-3 draw) at the Pinatar Arena. Ramos scored all three goals for the U.S. U-20s in the 3-3 draw with Denmark, helping the team overcome 2-0 and 3-1 deficits.

Ramos joined Sporting on Sept. 3 via loan from the LA Galaxy with 17 goals and seven assists in his professional career. The 19-year-old forward has previously represented the United States at the U-15, U-16, U-17, U-19 and U-20 levels, including appearances at two Concacaf U-20 Championships in 2024 and 2026.
