Kansas City Wizards left back Roger Espinoza has been recalled to the Honduras National Team for an upcoming friendly against Canada on Tuesday, September 7 in Montreal. Espinoza will leave for Honduras duty after Kansas City's match September 4 at Philadelphia.
Espinoza, 23, generally plays in midfield for Honduras and has 14 appearances for his country, including two starts at the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa. He played 90 minutes in Honduras' cup-opening loss to Chile before starting and playing 45 minutes against eventual champions Spain.
Kansas City drafted Espinoza 11th overall in the 2008 MLS SuperDraft after he starred in the 2008 NCAA College Cup for Ohio State. He has played in 53 MLS games (33 starts) during his three seasons, with one goal and six assists. Espinoza has already set career highs this year with 15 starts and 1,292 minutes played.
