Sporting Kansas City forward Dejan Joveljic's scissor kick for the game-winning goal in the club's 3-1 victory over the Houston Dynamo was selected as AT&T Goal of the Matchday, garnering twice as many votes as any other finalist in Major's League Soccer's fan poll for Matchday 17.
The Designated Player struck in the 52nd minute on Saturday following a set piece from Zorhan Bassong that was initially headed off the crossbar by Jansen Miller. Joveljic was first to the rebound and steered an exquisite side volley into the right corner for his second goal of the match and team-leading ninth goal of the season.
The Serbian striker now has 50 goals in his MLS career, including goals in three straight games -- the longest active scoring streak in the league -- to move up to eighth in the golden boot race this season.
With nine goals and one assist in 15 appearances, Joveljic is the first SKC player to score nine regular season goals in his debut season with the club since Johnny Russell (10 goals in 30 appearances in 2018) and he is currently one of only four MLS players with 10 goal contributions in each of the past four seasons (2022-2025).
Sporting Kansas City will take a four-match unbeaten streak to the West Coast this weekend to play LAFC at 8 p.m. CT on Sunday at BMO Stadium in Los Angeles.
The rematch of last year's Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup Final will be available to watch on Apple TV with an MLS Season Pass subscription. Pub partners in the Sporting Pub Network will also show all of the action, including a watch party at No Other Pub in the Kansas City Power & Light district featuring $4 domestic drafts, $5 wells and 50% off nachos for fans in SKC gear starting at 6 p.m.
