Major League Soccer announced today the MLS Team of the Matchday presented by Audi for Matchday 27 of the regular season with Sporting Kansas City forward Andre Luiz honored for a seond straight week as one of the top 20 players in the league following his two-goal performance against the Philadelphia Union on Saturday at Sporting Park.
The 24-year-old Designated Played opened the scoring in the fifth minute with one of the best individual goals of the season, earning a Goal of the Matchday nomination. The Brazilian received the ball at midfield and dribbled past a pair of Union defenders before beating three-time MLS Goalkeeper of the Year Andre Blake with a shot inside the far post from a tight angle.
Andre bagged his brace just four minutes and 35 seconds later with a curling finish into the bottom corner from 20 yards out to become the first player in club history to score twice in the first 10 minutes of an MLS regular season match.
Sporting Kansas City returns to the road this weekend to face the Houston Dynamo at 7:30 p.m. CT on Saturday at Shell Energy Stadium. The Western Conference match-up will be available to watch on Apple TV in English and Spanish in addition to local radio broadcasts on Sports Radio 810 WHB and La Grande 1340 AM with audio streams available in the SKC app.
